Rooftop Films Marrakech is launching a call for participation for young filmmakers who have already directed their short films and wish to connect with a wider audience under the stars.

We’re honored by your trust and thrilled to be curating a one-of-a-kind lineup for our inaugural Rooftop Films Marrakech Summer Series – a celebration of cinema under the stars in one of the world’s most vibrant and creative cities.

  Submissions Overview. 

​

The Rooftop Films Marrakech Summer Series brings the magic of open-air cinema to rooftops, gardens, and historic spaces across the city.

From May to September 2025, we’ll showcase daring new films from Morocco, the region, and around the world — under the stars, with live music, filmmaker Q&As, and unforgettable experiences.

 Whether you're a first-time filmmaker or an established voice with something fresh to say, we want to hear from you.

   What We’re Looking For. 

 

Rooftop Films Marrakech accepts:

• Genres: Fiction, Documentary, Experimental, Animation, Hybrid

• Formats: Narrative, non-narrative, personal, political, comedic, abstract

• Voices: Especially from underrepresented, marginalized, and emerging creators

• Languages: Films must be in English, Arabic, French or have English subtitles

• Lengths:

  • Short Films: Under 60 minutes

  • Feature Films: 60 minutes and longer

We look for films that are bold in form or content, and which take creative risks. We love works that reflect your city, your culture, your time, and your truth.

    Submission Guidelines:   

• Choose ONE method only: either FilmFreeway or direct form (not both).

• Include a secure online preview link with your submission.

• All submissions must include English subtitles if the film is not in English.

• If selected, filmmakers will be asked to provide final video files per screening specs.

• All accepted films may be screened at multiple events during the Summer Series or beyond the summer time

Our programming team views each film with care and attention. We curate programs based on themes, tone, and audience engagement — pairing shorts and features to create unique, immersive evenings. Our events often include:

• Rooftop Receptions & Afterparties

Rooftop Filmmakers Fund (Coming Soon)

Accepted filmmakers will be eligible to apply to the Rooftop Filmmakers Fund, a future initiative to support returning alumni with post-production grants, residencies, or festival support.
